Definition Of Love

Love is a word
I'm not quite sure I understand,
Is it suppose to disappear
And leave you with your heart in your hand?

When one loves with their whole heart
And gives all they have inside,
Shouldn't it be accepted and cherished,
Not just stepped on and thrown aside?

Why do people take advantage of hearts,
Then leave them hurting and not able to understand?
Is there something I'm not seeing,
Or has love gotten way out of hand?

I guess my definition of love
Is much more than that,
I thought love was strong and everlasting
Not something people could throw away at the drop of a hat.

Shouldn't we realize what we have
And nurture it the best we can?
Can't we love and be loved
And make a life with that woman or man?

Love is suppose to be beautiful,
A feeling like none ever felt,
Love is there always and forever
It isn't suppose to bring pain and regret.

I know what kind of love I need
And I will find it one day,
But I guess it's these painful experiences
That makes you look forward to a love that will stay.

So when love comes knockin on your heart,
Be careful of who you let in,
Not everyone considers love as you do
Open your heart slowly, It's worth it in the end.
