Love Story #4145
The break up and make up of a teen relationship
by Tara
"I really am sorry Kate, it's not you, it's me. We're to young, I want to be single and have fun. I didn't want to hurt you, I hope we can still be mates". What could Kate say back to that? How could she speak when her world was falling apart? Finally Kate replied "if that's what you want okay, just Kevin I really liked you and we did have fun. One day you will realise what you've lost and I doubt I'll be there for you to fall back on. Let's try and stay friends" and that was it, the end to such a beautiful relationship. Kate went back over to all her mates and put on a huge smile, Kate pretended she was fine with what had happened and people even believed her, but deep down she was heartbroken, she had to fight to keep the tears in. Although Kate and Kevin had only been together a month it seemed so much more. Since the first day Kate had spoken to Kevin she had fancied him. It started off as a drunken pull, but both immediately realised something more was there. It took a few days but soon they were going out and were completely love struck. They couldn't keep themselves away from each other and met everyday. Kate thought it was love, and being a girl she thought it would last forever. However most good things come to an end and this was no exception. Kate pretended she was okay and still her friends don't understand how upset she was. How could they understand, when Kate hardly understood herself? Kate would never cry a tear for a boy but Kevin was special, Kate thought she loved him and she had hoped he felt the same but all was shattered in one day. Kate learnt that you never know what true love is until you've lost it. The break up was very sudden, it appeared out of no where and left Kate heartbroken and still to this day pieces are missing from her heart. As time went on Kevin moved on and Kate shortly followed. Little friendship remained between the two and conversation was difficult. Kate pretended to be over Kevin and went from boy to boy. Sometimes she genuinely did feel she was over him, but every time a relationship would end she would start thinking about Kevin again. Life was hard without him, she missed him, both as a friend and a boyfriend. Seven months after the split, a huge group of friends were in the park drinking and smoking like they did every Saturday night. Kate had spent ages getting ready and this was appreciated, as she was paid many compliments. A strong friendship had blossomed between Kate and Kevin and Kate had excepted that they were over. Perhaps this made Kevin finally see what he had thrown away as Kate finally got what she wanted. However opportunities like this always come along at the worst possible moment. Kate had just been through an upsetting break up and to be honest, she had lost all interest in boys. She had been hurt to many times and didn't want to be treated badly anymore. She had been out with numerous boys since Kevin but now she had decided she wanted to stay single and keep boys as friends. Kevin meanwhile was dealing with one of Kate's close mates. So the situation proved hard. But still Kate took the chance and didn't refuse when Kevin asked to speak to her. "Look Kate, I've realised how stupid I was to finish with you in the summer, I went of with Clare when I should of stayed with you! I mean look at you, you look so fit tonight and it just makes me realise what I through away, sorry yeah" "Yeah, you were a stupid" laughed Kate. "No, really I'm being serious now Kate, I made a big mistake, I regret it" replied Kevin while holding her arms and staring in to her big, blue eyes. "I wish you had never done it Kevin, but you did and that’s all in the pass now, we have both moved on" lied Kate. "You're dealing with my mate, this is unfair on her. I'm gonna do the right thing and walk away" and with that Kate went back to the crowd of people hanging by the swings. Kate was hurt to know that she had to deny her feelings to Kevin but she didn't want to betray her friend. For the rest of the night Kate watched while Kevin and Marie cuddled and stared into each other's eyes and although Kate didn't want to admit it, she was jealous. She longed to be Marie, she wanted to be the girl in his arms. A week on from this night Kate spent the day with Kevin and they spoke about Marie, he talked about how his feelings for her were non-existent and how maybe dealing was a bad idea. After spending so many hours with Kevin, Kate was besotted with him. She went home and couldn't get him out of her mind. However that night Kevin was beaten up and Kate was in a mess when she heard the news. Fortunately her mind was soon put at ease when Kevin phoned her "Hi Kate how are you?" "I'm fine, but what about you, I heard what happened, oh my God, I want to be with you" cried Kate. "Calm down! I'm fine. Just shocked you know? I phoned Marie but put the phone down, can't be asked with her anymore". The call continued for a while longer and then Kevin had to go and the call ended. When Kevin and Kate next met him and Marie had stopped dealing and finally Kate could be honest to her friends about her feelings for Kevin. The two carried on as normal, except now Marie was of the scene the friction between them was dynamite. Slowly people began to notice that perhaps the feelings being seen were more then friendship but still Kevin made no move. Kate was confused and upset, she didn't understand why he would tell her he regretted leaving her and then not act on his feelings. Kate's best friend Sarah decided enough was enough and went behind Kate's back and asked Kevin's best friend how Kevin felt. Contrary to Kate's belief the news was good. "Kate…come here, I need to tell you something" smiled Sarah "What?" replied Kate. "You no Kevin…he fancies you! He thinks you've got one of the best personalities and he misses you, but he don't think you feel the same way". Kate couldn't believe what she was hearing, she was in pure shock and so happy. Kate had waited eight months to hear these words and now that the day had finally come, she was overwhelmed. Many people say that a teenager can't have these kinds of feelings but this could not be denied Kate loved Kevin with all her heart. Still though not much happened, the two flirted and hugged but that was it. In ways Kate was glad, she didn't want him to hurt her again, she had just made a huge step in getting over him, Kate knew that if he hurt her again she would take longer to get over him and blame herself for taking him back. Kate concluded that she should not deny her feelings in fear of getting hurt, she decided that if the chance came along she would except it with open arms, after all she had been waiting eight months for this opportunity to rise…
